Home Decor Hop Day 1, Friday (Runs through Sunday)

April 22, 2011

Come hop with us as we feature over 40 different home decor projects with instructions on how you can duplicate them! Make sure you visit the lineup each day because a lot of us gals will feature a new project for each of the three days! I have indeed made a different item for each of the three days of the hop. So do come back tomorrow!

You should have arrived here from Faithfule Creations. Faith is the first stop and our hostess this weekend. Be sure you follow her directions for a chance at winning extra blog candy. My candy is listed at the very end of this post.

Your next stop is Handmade by Angelica.

Happy Easter
Today I am sharing a decoration for your home for Easter weekend. I present to you these fabulous Easter Egg Mini Boxes! Originally I was going to share these on Sunday, being that Easter Day. But I am addicted to making these and think that you will love them as well. You will want to make time in your weekend to create at least a couple! They are easy and allow your imagination to run free! They can be beautiful or cheery. The cutting file comes from SVG Shop. Eleanor is a genius!!

As I said, they are easy to make. Using Eleanor's cut file, I made two sizes--and Four Collections!! (I told you I was having fun with these!) The file comes with clear directions. Eleanor tests everything--she knows her stuff! As you see I used several designs of patterned card stock. I do recommend card stock over paper. These are boxes that open up for hiding treats. With that in mind, you want to think carefully about the papers that you use for the sides, insides and bottom of the box. You will see in the Fabergé Collection that I used black paper for sides and back. You can embellish them as you choose or leave them plain. Yes, they are boxes, but you could just use the top in any other manner you can dream up. You can even get the kids involved in making these darling boxes! My first grader just informed me that he does not want the box. He simply wants the chocolates inside!! Well, do enjoy.

I Need YOUR Tips
I am still very new to using a Xyron. I do not like how it leaves "orphaned" adhesive between intricate cuts. It is hard to wipe away. Suggestions?
Can you suggest a foil or metallic paper? The stuff I have flakes and tears easily.

Krista's Paper Cafe Egg Gallery
The Embossed and Fabergé Collections displays eggs that are 3 1/2 inches tall. The Fabergé eggs are all on shiny and shimmery paper--but it is hard to see that. They are supposed to look expensive! The Christian and Cheery Collections displays eggs that are just under 5 inches tall. Let's begin our tour of the Gallery.

Blog Candy
The blog candy I am offering is somewhat related to home decor. I have this lovely 8 X 8 Cookbook Recipe Journal Kit. The theme is Bar-B-Que. It is fun and cute. It comes with a very nice hard cover, papers, stickers and recipe cards. I sure hope that some one who likes BBQ wins!! For your chance to win, become a follower and leave a comment. Be sure I can contact you. As well, I invite you to check my fan page on facebook. I often posts project there that I do not post on my blog.

  1. These eggs are fabulous!! I love that you created different collections. I don't have experience with Xyron to make any recommendations there but as to the paper question, I love DCWV's Metallic and Shimmer stacks and also Core'dinations Gemstones and Pearls. There is also another line called Curious Metallics though I have no first-hand experience with it (it appears to be very similar to DCWV's versions). I just don't know if they have the foil appearance you're looking for. It looks like you used American Crafts Specialty foil cardstock. When I use those foil-covered papers, I use a marker in a matching color to color all the edges of my cuts so that the flaking of the foil isn't visible. It works great for me. I'd love to know the best answer to the adhesive question too, if you find one. Back to your project... great job!

  4. Those eggs are so cute!

For the xyron, if you use a ball point pen to rub in the dead space it gets all the extra goo and it stays on the paper.
    if that makes sense.

  5. These egg boxes are sooooo sweet!! I wish I hadn't just finished making my easter baskets with my cricut. I definitely would have made these!!! Thanks for the inspiration. I'll make these for another celebration for sure!!!!!

  6. hello krista, these egg boxes are :egg-cellent"! i also liked how you incorporated the different collections. great description and you blog so nice.

    have a blessed weekend!

  7. Those egg boxes are beautiful!! I especially love the embossed ones 🙂
I have a xyron and I too have had that issue. I've found that if I pickup a small piece of the "leftovers" and then dabb it on the areas that have leftovers,(sort of like dabbing tape to get fur off of clothes) it comes off pretty easily. If someone has a better idea, I'd surely be interested in it too!

  8. Krista, I love all of them. I don't know how you do it. All of your items are so nice and there are so many of them and you have 3 kids to take care of. You did a great job. Love them.

  9. Thanks for such wonderful ideas.I will have so much things to create. With getting a whole new make over for our house these ideas will definitely come in handy. Thanks again for sharing such awesome Projects.

  10. How delightful these are. My favorites are the embossed eggs - so beautiful! I am already a follower of your blog. Always a treat to stop by to see what you are creating! And what I wouldn't give to be the lucky winner of that bbq album, as my husband is KING of the bbq and I would love to scrap his passion for everything grilled. Thanks for the chance and have a HAPPY EASTER!

  11. Love your eggs. They are all beautiful. I wish I knew the tip for the Xyron. I have the same problem and would love to be able to get rid of the extra. The little machine is great and quick, if not a little pricey if you are doing a lot of gluing. TFS and the chance to win. I am a follower. patnbobcuddy at gmail dot com
