Lucky Leprechaun St. Patrick's Day Blog Hop

March 17, 2011

Welcome & Top 'O the Morning to You (or afternoon or evening). Happy St. Patrick's Day. It is fun to be hop-hosting with some of the same gals as a few previous hops. I hope you will enjoy this community of crafters as well. If you have come from Sigrid at LoveScrapReflect, you are on the right country path. If you want to start at the beginning of this Irish journey, please go to Nicolette at Beyond Scrapin. The full line-up is also listed below.

I am not Irish. But this year I have been having fun with paper crafting for the St Pat's holiday. Everyone's a little Irish on St Patrick's Day! I invite you to look at my previous posts for more Irish-themed ideas! Mini Album and Treat Box & Card

For this hop I present to you three more creations to celebrate this festive day. I have one friend who is Irish. Some of these items are going to her family. It was so fun "playing" with for her!!

I Caught a Little Leprechaun!
I have been playing with my kids for over a week. I made paper "gold coins" and shamrocks. I drop some on the floor at least once a day, exclaiming, "A Leprechaun must have been here! Look! He left more gold!" They come running every time! Then I say, "I'm going to catch that Leprechaun!!" Unfortunately, I think my 4 year old is on to me!! But Look! Today is a good St Pat's Day for me--not so much for the leprechaun! I found that UNLucky leprechaun snooping around in my craft room! Won't the 4 year be surprised?!

I designed my Leprechaun myself with my Pazzles' software. (He is really paper pieced!!) I also drew the jar. I cut it out of a cello bag--leaving the bottom in tack and gluing the sides. There is a "cork" stopper on the top that can be removed. Although I do not recommend it. Those leprechauns are quite the tricksters!

Ah ha! Caught Ya!!

Not Taking My Eye Off This Trickster!

A Simple Card
I started with a plain top hat and shamrock from a (free) cut file created by Eleanor at SVGShop. I used my Pazzles to alter the hat and added a bit more dimension by cutting out the rectangles (not original to the file). I created a digital stamp in Adobe Illustrator for the sentiment and matched it with a scalloped and plain circle. Finishing the cut file with the shamrock original to SVGShop's file. I hope that the photo shows big enough for you to see that the paper is of the perfect texture for this theme!! (If not, do take a moment to click on the photo to enlarge it.)

"Topped" the hat off with a little Irish bling and coordinating, bright green ribbon. The card back is the same cut as the front. It's kind of small as I mis-measured. About 4 inches square. But, with the beauty and ease of Pazzles, all pieces can be re-sized in one move! Isn't it cute?!

Top 'O the Mornin' to Ya Now

A Kid Craft

Mini Hat for Treats

Here is a project that you can do with the kids. I cut it on my paper cutter, but you can do so by hand. The hat is open on the top so it can be used for storing your gold, shamrocks and other sweet goodies. I placed it on my head and this time the 4 year old thought Mom was the leprechaun!!
(I have tried converting this cut file to SVG. If you would like to try it out for free, I wold appreciate you doing so. Leave a comment with email address.)

  1. Love this idea..how cute...we used to decorat a box and put some lucky charms inside and the next morning when the boys lifted the box there would be a note telling them better luck next year but that he did enjoy the treat that they left him..and then there would be crumbs left from the lucky charms...we had so much fun with doing that..
