Salt and Light Decor

It’s "typography" week at Pazzles. Each day this week the Design Team will inspire you with projects based around numbers and letters. This month was a new challenge for me.

If you have used the “fit text to path” option with the Pro Software, you can see where it might be easier to manipulate the text. However, I used the newer InVue Software to create my project. As InVue Software does not yet have the “fit text to path” option, I was a little lost at first. Then I realized that working with the text was easier and just as fun. By foregoing “fit to text,” I was able to manipulate each letter freely.

I decided to bring a Bible verse in to my project. This gave me words and an image to work with. I chose Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Here is a screen shot of my design as it appears in the InVue software. First I drew a light bulb. Then I decided that I wanted to use a flame to represent the light. I feel the flame is more spiritual and more aligned with the message.

I did draw the salt shaker and flame myself. However, you can find a shaker and flames in the Pazzles’ Craft Room Library. I cut the outline for the shaker and the flame, as well as the type, out of vinyl. I adhered the vinyl to cardstock. I used a white gel pen to write the scripture address, as it is so tiny. I used Core'dination's cardstock for the salt. This let me rough up the paper a bit. I used a variegated orange paper for the light. On it I smudged brown ink here and there. My finished, framed pictures each measure just under 6 X 8 inches.
