Summer Lanterns

August 5, 2014

Over at Pazzles the design team is making new out of old. For Project Rewind we were assigned to create a project using an existing Craft Room project as our guide.

Instead of rewinding, I want to help you un-wind! And although our world is very modern & sterile, we can still get a glimpse of nature and its simplicity. I really like how Michelle used the 3D bird cage to make these beautiful winter lanterns. I have taken the same 3D pattern and made a lantern for enjoying the summer evenings.

I chose a rustic color for my lantern and added brown inking to give it a rusted, weathered feel. Some parts of the paper did not cut all the way through. But that added to the look & feel of the lantern.

I found a darling firefly in the Pazzles’ Craft Room. I am kind of a perfectionist, so I interpreted the colors a bit differently. I used vellum for the wings.

I left the top off the original pattern (snow & holly on Michelle’s lantern) and replaced it with leaves that I found in the software library and white flowers that are made with a hand punch.

You could make a number of these to hang in your garden or porch. I have placed a tea light candle inside. However, you will want to use a battery operated candle! Remember to take a little time to relax this summer.
