Time for my January creation with design team: "made with love (and paper)." We are on our Eleventh creation as a team. Please stop by to see the creations from the rest of the team. And do join us in this month's challenge!! You are always welcome to submit your creation to the challenge.
Our made with love (and paper) challenge for January is to make or decorate a new year hat. I was hoping to be done early to inspire you . . . but alas, the cave boys got in the way with school break. (Lesson learned: I knew what I was going to do and should have made it before the break.)
Do you remember this top hat that I made?
I designed the pattern myself. It was a challenge. It's still a challenge. I am not a mathematician, so geometry does not help me. And I am still learning to think in 3D. I decided that since I worked so hard to create the file, that I would use it for this challenge. I think I have perfected it!! Ha!
The first step is to make the top hat itself. I only had 2 pieces of the paper I chose. That covered most of the hat to look like as one whole piece. But, there were holes. I knew the finished creation would lean toward a steam punk theme. I had a brilliant idea! (Don't you love when that happens!!) The world of steam punk is not a perfect world. Often it is literally pieced together. I used the scraps as . . . well, as scrap. I patched and pieced the scraps to cover the holes. It may be hard to see in the photo. I thought about adding that faux stitching--but I do not have that white pen. The hat measures 5 1/2 inches high and about 1o inches across the brim. Not quite life size.
Next step, decorate the top hat.
I used this gorgeous classy lady cut file from My Scrap Chick. I flipped some of the pieces and cut them so that I could have a back on her. I love the 3D hair!! This is an amazing cut file. So many possibilities! Notice that she, herself, is wearing a top hat!
I created the clock myself and the cogs are from My Crafty Life. I added a few metal paper clips as well.
Put it all together . . .

once again. You have a FABULOUS project!! I like that 3D hair too. Do the cave boys get to fight over the hat when you are done?? Or do you have to make another one? (hugs)
