Home Decor Hop Day 3, Sunday (last day, sniff)

April 24, 2011

Come hop with us as we feature over 40 different home decor projects with instructions on how you can duplicate them! Make sure you visit the lineup each day because a lot of us gals will feature a new project for each of the three days!
I have made a different item for each of the three days of the hop. See my Easter Egg Boxes from Day 1 and my Popsicle Magnets from Day 2.

Easter Blessings to you and yours. You should have arrived here from Faithfule Creations. Faith is the first stop and our hostess this weekend. Be sure you follow her directions for a chance at winning extra blog candy. My candy is listed at the very end of this post.

Your next stop is Handmade by Angelica.

Sprucing Up the Place
Today's decoration is a picture using the technique called Iris Folding. Iris Folding originated in Holland, where early craft persons made their designs using patterned paper cut from the inside of envelopes. Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves placing coordinated strips of folded paper over a pattern, creating a spiralling design that resembles the iris of a camera. When I first learned this craft, I was taught to tape the strips of paper in to place. I find that if I glue them I am happier with the finished product. Also, when I first Iris Folded I cut out my finished "frame" by hand with an xacto knife. Thanks to my Pazzles personal paper cutter, I now have a clean cut out surrounding my iris fold!

Growing a Tree
I chose to make a tree with three colors surrounding the iris.

A Couple Tips & Tricks
1. Remember, when it come to glue, "A dot does a lot!"
2. Use almost any kind of paper: scrap book, wrapping, junk mail, origami,
3. Thrift stores are a great resource for picture frames

More Designs
Here are a couple other pieces that I framed. My Pear picture won second place in the 2009 Minnesota State Fair. If you click each picture and then click it again, you will get a larger picture to examine and see the iris.

Quick Video Tutorial

Iris Folding is a fun way to make spectacular greeting cards and framed art! You can also use it in scrapbooking.

Blog Candy
The blog candy I am offering is somewhat related to home decor. I have this lovely 8 X 8 Cookbook Recipe Journal Kit. The theme is Bar-B-Que. It is fun and cute. It comes with a very nice hard cover, papers, stickers and recipe cards. I sure hope that some one who likes BBQ wins!! For your chance to win, become a follower and leave a comment. I would like to know if you have tried iris folding? Not required, I do invite you to check my fan page on facebook. I often posts project there that I do not post on my blog.

Next Stop
Do enjoy the creations presented on the hop today. Maybe you will be inspired to make one of them. We hope you enjoyed to past three days. Great thanks to Faith for hosting The Home Decor Blog hop. Have a good week and Happy Easter.

  1. Ohmigosh! These are absolutely beautiful! I have seen a few other iris folding projects and though I thought they were very pretty, they didn't intrigue me as much as yours have. Maybe it's because you show how it's done. Love the tutorial!
